Nowhere near as good as the first book (L&L).

Ok, it took me a while to read this but I think that’s just because I was having a bit of burnout from all the reading I did in April for Magical Readathon. Lol. Despite that, this was the perfect book to get me through a slump. It was really cute and yet still had a great sense of mystery to it.

I loved seeing Viv learn to slow down and enjoy small-town life while she healed. It was pretty funny how hard it was for her to relax and actually let her body start to heal. The romance between Viv and Maylee was adorable but so bittersweet how it had to end. Fern and Potroast were arguably my favorite characters in the book- literally, I want their life. Lol. The whole necromancer sub-plot going on was just the right amount for a cozy fantasy- somewhat high-stakes intrigue that didn’t take away from the coziness of the small-seaside-village life.

I’m definitely ready for the next book- whenever, if ever, that may be. 😁

'“Every book is a little mirror, and sometimes you look into it and see someone else looking back.”'

This book has such a great vibe. Viv the orc is stuck in a quaint seaside town convalescing. She's counting down the days until she can rejoin her troop. In the meantime, there's sweet lassy buns to eat, a bookshop to renovate, and delightful characters to fall in love with. But it's not all deliciously descriptive food writing, found family, and cozy atmosphere with a powerful necromancer as the villain. I love this even more than Legends & Lattes.

'For a while, there was nothing but the hiss of the lantern and the weary, contented silence that follows in the wake of a day spent laboring with others.'

This book was just as lovely and Legends and Lattes and such a pleasant listen. It didn't hit me in the cozy feels the same but it still filled my soul in a gentle, compassionate way. This series is such a refreshing gust of air on a hot sandy beach of vicious tropes within the genre. We need more books with kind characters, who do things because they have good hearts. This series is one of those.
