Not my favorite, but also not quite as offensive as Tintin au Congo. There's even criticism at how Native Americans were cheated out of oil wells, which I didn't expect from a 1931 comic.

Like Tintin au Congo, it's good but definitely not the best one. Too many things are based on pure luck. It didn't feel like Tintin lived because he did something it felt like he lived because he can't die, he's Tintin! Anyway still a fun read but not my favorite one

Ah fuck I read them out of order! This book was pretty shit as a start. Had a somewhat cohesive plot and was interesting at some points as you followed tintin interactions with the mov but the the whole thing is ruined by Herge's racism. The native Americans in this are so stereotypical it could border on satire. Now some may say that Herge does acknowledge this to some extent in a bit where he talks about the oppression of native American by the American capilatist system except it's 100% just a criticism of the symptom and not the system due to his previous treatment of anticapitalist ideals in this series AND he repeats many of the stereotypes of native Americans that were and are used but colonizers to justify that oppression
