Really a 2.5
Big vibes of the author wanting to create a regency romance with a twist of magic. Great potential but poorly executed. It clearly wanted to be Pride and a Prejudice but lacked wit, insight and self awareness.
- Incredibly intense to the point of being a bit ridiculous.
- Used italics too much - it became over bearing and distracting. Every time I saw one I rolled my eyes and now they are sore.
- A number of editorial errors that jarred me out of the narrative.
- Poor world building that eluded to magic but never explained its system or rules. The author occasionally touched on magic users being the decendents of God's, but never elaborated on it. This would have been really interesting and its a shame that this part wasn't fleshed out properly.
- A romance that made little sense. I have no idea what Niamh saw in Kit or the other way round. He was a stubborn arse and she was essentially and idiot. It also became boring how self deprecating she was.
After the 50% mark, I started skim reading, which is always a bad sign. Even then, it took me ages to read what isn't a particularly long book.

Super cute, sweet story! A light fantasy with a UK-Ireland(?) coded tension. Different classes, happy ending . In the beginning (first few chapters) I was a little skeptical of whether I would like it, but I ended up adoring it! Soft FMC. A reviewer said it had Studio Ghibli vibes, definitely agree!
