The day after a blizzard, Lina walks to her Sitti's place to help make warak enab. Along the way, Lina counts the many different ways she can hear the snow, coming up with nine. When she reaches Sitti, she learns a tenth way to hear the snow: quietly.

Lovely, contemporary looking illustrations with Middle Eastern characters. The story is calm and goes at a good pace for reading aloud.

Storytime:
Snow / Winter
Grandparents

Walking to her grandmother's apartment across town, Lina notices 9 different ways to hear snow in the quietness after a blizzard. Once she arrives, as she and her grandmother make grape leaves / warak enab, Lina tells her grandmother about her experience. Lina is surprised when her grandmother, who does not see well, tells her that she knew it snowed because of the 10th way to hear snow. Along the way, Lina and Sitti share some nice connection moments including some silliness using the grape leaves as mustaches.

Very beautifully written and illustrated! Some people see the world with their ears. (Yes, I'm quoting Last Stop on Market Street.)

An absolutely beautiful book about snow, and slowing down to take the time to listen to nature. I loved the small additions to the author's Lebanese culture!

Sure it can be a counting book
Sure it can be a book about someone with impairments
Sure it can be a book about winter

How do you want to use it?
