The Preacher’s Promise melds rich faith, heartfelt romance, and history together in a deeply compelling narrative. I loved this book—it completely swept me away. Mandy and Virgil’s journey and struggles grip you tight and don’t let go. It’s inherently hopeful and I’m so excited to read the next book in the series—highly recommend!!!

The first book in the Milford College series and a great story. Amanda Stewart's Father dies, and she leaves Ohio to start anew in Georgia, by teaching. There she meets Virgil Smithson, who is the town mayor, blacksmith and appears to be everything else in that small town. Piper is a great author and her books are just so informative.

Well, I bought a book and read it on the same day. Success! I've found another author who writes historical romances about non-white people, and this makes me happy. I liked this story about a teacher and preacher finding their way with one another. Amanda was the teacher, who'd been protected from the harshness of slavery. Still, she wasn't afraid to make her way in the world, in a way she wanted. Virgil, a preacher and the mayor of Milford, took a while to grow on me. He was a bit harsh, but really loved his daughter, March. I soon discovered his harshness was just a facade, as Virgil had already lost his previous wife, due to slavery. I liked that he and Amanda were a good match for each other intellectually, although Amanda was more traditionally educated.

The book involved discussions of slavery, education, and love. There was a bit of marriage of convenience, made more interesting by the fact that Virgil had a daughter. I liked the characters, plot, and some of the twists with Mrs. Milford. I recommend trying this book if you're in search of a historical romance that has Christian characters, and discussions about slavery and life in the Reconstruction era of America.

This was everything I want in a historical inspirational romance: rich setting and meaningful conflict driven by character motivation that is authentic and genuine.

"The Preacher's Promise" is a very entertaining tale set in Reconstruction Era Georgia. With some interesting characters, this is another book which I found hard to put down once I started. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
