Loved it. Was caught up in the story immediately. Caught myself bringing my hand over my heart and squealing far too many times. Swooning for chase!!! First book of Emily’s I read, but will not be the last.

I ended up enjoying this book more than I expected. I liked that Chase understands he has his problems and that proactively tries to work on himself once he moves away from Sugarlake. I liked that we saw him go from an angsty and emo teen with issues to a grown man who aimed to be better. I feel like that's the only standout piece of the book, that the male protagonist actually changes and finds healthy avenues to work on himself. The rest of the book is your run of mill romance.

Having really enjoyed other Emily McIntire books I thought this was going to be another enjoyable one.

The timeline jumps quite a bit in the first part of the book which made it difficult to hold my attention. The second part of the book just grated on me. There is so much focus on Chase's flaws and we never touch on Alina's, especially not her ability to project her insecurities on to others or her inability to have a conversation which could ultimately stop her deciding she knows everything without all the facts. Nevermind she gets uppity about people bot twlling her stuff yet the issue is she's so wrapped up in her own world she doesn't actually even really take time to find out what's going on with anyone else.

I found it quite hard getting through the pace of this book, it really dragged for me. I don't find myself in a rush to read the rest of the series but may get to it one day.

WOW OH WOW. I can’t get enough of this amazing author. This is the first book in a character series Sugarlake. If you like angst, heat, passion, heartbreak & epic love you need this in your life. This is a childhood friends to lovers with so much pain & struggle. They’re not perfect but man the relationship at the end of this makes all the feels worth it. The spice is out of this world!! If you love spicy books this is right up your ally. It’s got great writing, a great plot & lots of sexual tension.
