Clearly, I loved this book, hence the five star rating! It is cute, clever (I figured out the whodunit, but after reading the reviews, it seems like many adults don't) and laugh-out-loud funny. The setting, the cast...I actually e-mailed one of the proverbs/marketing statements at the beginning of a chapter to my thirty year old friends. And this is a book for 10 year-olds.

Anyway, highly recommend to ANYONE looking for a light, fun, hilarious middle-grade read!

I picked this book up because of the illustrator, and I ended up being much more impressed by them than the plot itself. It's often hard to introduce a completely new world full of non-human characters, names, and abilities, and I struggled with this book through the first half. I enjoyed the ending, but this was quite a slow starter for me.

Dr. Critchlore's School for Minions by Sheila Grau
(Release date April)

Think Harry Potter, but instead of being trained in the art of witchcraft the students are trained to become Minions, then add werewolves, mummies, zombies, a whole lot of other monsters, and a few humans to the mix.

Wonderful story! Action, suspense, a couple of mysteries, sabotage, and some general mischief. My only issue with this book was that it wasn't written for an older group; if it had, more people, including adults would really enjoy this story!

Five stars!!

My boys loved it, the pacing was off for me, but a good story.

Fun to read, cute and original, but it got a little tedious about 2/3 of the way through. I loved Runt and his friends, and found the plot interesting, but ultimately none of the characters flesh out very much, we see very little of some interesting secondary characters (Uncle Ludwig, Cook, etc) and the mystery/plot becomes a little rinse/repeat in how it's played out.

But it's definitely fun! And I think the kids will really enjoy it.
