A nice book about Druids which is well researched. This book includes a lot of historical trivia and provides a decent understanding of Druidry. However, the author does insert a bit of their own opinions and assumptions which makes some of the book unpalatable. Also, the author doesn't give credence to Neo Druid movements or how Druidry has gone through various evolutions. I found it interesting and it held my attention, but I read it over the course of about 6 months while I also read other books.

This book is extremely informative and I am glad I read it. The only reason I did not rate it higher is because certain parts of the text were so dense with information of all sorts (narrative, linguistics, history, geography, etc) that it, to me, made these sections sometimes feel boring and in which I lost the thread of a story or the main point of a passage. In other words, I felt the book could either have been organized in a more helpful way or could have excluded certain extensive details. Overall, though, I learned so much from this book and I felt Markale spoke respectfully and carefully with regards to numerous belief systems.
