The Amaranthine Chronicles – made up of Betrayed By Blood, Dark Revenge, and The Final Battle – was a fun quick read, although it wasn’t quite all that I had expected. It works best if you read them all in one sitting, as they very much feel like one story split into parts rather than three separate stories. Due to this, my review of the whole series is more detailed than my review of each individual part.

The Final Battle, the third and final story in this short collection, was a fun end to the series. It worked to bring about an end to the many aspects of the world that have been shown to us throughout the two prior stories, adding in some final curveballs to keep us on our toes. As a whole, there were some really nice twists in this final part of the story. I’ll admit that there were some predictable moments, but as a whole it was a very interesting read.

Throughout the series I’ve been hoping for a better understanding of the magical world, with that one aspect preventing me from falling completely under the spell of the series. Unfortunately, this final book left me with even more questions than the two prior reads. I had questions about a number of the new aspects thrown in, questions about where things would go after the story, and such a thing disappointed me. I had come to accept that I would never fully understand the magical system – yet I did not expect to have even more questions at the end of the story. This, I believe, could have been sorted through another chapter or two detailing events after the story ended.

As a whole, it was a nice end to a fun little series. It wasn’t quite the series for me, but it did offer up a lot of fun throughout.
