Because the book is so short, it was definitely a page turner because I knew I could finish it quickly and the concept is really engaging. However, there really wasn't a twist. The end was predictable and didn't provide much surprise or relief. I did enjoy it though, not bad, not great.

This book had immense potential. And then it absolutely shit the bed. I hated the ending found it quite ridiculous actually. Loved it so much up until the last few chapters. Beyond disappointed.

The beginning of this had some promise, it does feel like “a debut novel” but that doesn’t really bother me, we all gotta start somewhere. I think this book does a pretty decent job describing how a lot of (maybe not so many places now w/ modernization) mental health institutions and patients do not receive the help they need. I resonated with that. But
i cannot write a full review for this novel without spoiling it. that’s how much the last quarter of this book made me mad. mad and confusing at every single decision made for the characters and the plot?? you had a mildly compelling mystery going and THAT is what you’re ending with? I— 👎🏻 There is a confusing lack of barely any foreshadowing to this ending.

The ending is more supernatural than factual which I had a hard time accepting. This book had a lot of potential to be very good, but it faltered... it was really short and the world was not fleshed out enough. It also tried very hard to be smart and wasn't. The main character was supposed to be a genius but the fact that he was so easily manipulated by the antagonist was frustrating more than anything. It made it very unbelievable. The arrogance that he had too made him just gross in my opinion. It's a mid horror story.
