This book just could not be more fun. Its certainly not a serious heavy book, but if you liked the movie (and, really, who didnt?), you'll like the book.

I first read this at Church camp one summer. I had stormed through all of my own books and proceeded to borrow this from a friend, who warned me that try as I might, I would never be able to find an unabridged copy as this was part of the story. Dubiously, I set in to read and was swept away.
As (almost) always, the book is about a bajillion times better than the movie, though I accept there really isn't a way to translate Goldman's hilarious "abridgments" to the silver screen. My favorite abridgment is his cutting of the 56 and a half pages about the packing habits of royalty.
Shame prompts me to include a small note: I do not feel that Wesley and Buttercup are the love of the century. Not that I have a better couple, but her disregard for him rubs me the wrong way; I have always felt he loved her more than she him. I suppose literature is not the best place to look for a guide to healthy relationships.

So much more than the movie. The all encompassing world and lore that Goldman creates surrounding The Princess Bride is intoxicating. Highest recommendation.
