I can see why this is a fan favorite for some. The format is interesting and makes it feel like you're getting 2, 3 stories in one. I love the illustrations. It helps put the characters in perspective. Waverly is just adorable 🥺

Edit:// Okay, so I've just been told that S. Mogenstern didn't actually exist. And it was all part of the story. HAHAH GOT ME. But I'm going to leave the bottom part on there so we can all laugh at my stupidity. Thank you very much.
I read this book with my lovely book club. At first, it was kind of hard for me to get into it, and it kind of confused me. I was confused why the it had a different author name but it said it was Morgenstern's tale. But when the narration throughout, it actually makes sense. I think it's adorable what Goldman did and why he did it. He abridged it to make it only the "good parts" that his father had read to him when he was sick with pneumonia at 10 years old.
The story is HILARIOUS. I don't know how long ago this was written, but I was surprised that the humor was still so similiar to the humor nowadays. I don't know if I thought that back in the day, people didn't think the same stuff as funny, but it's like it was dry humor which is the kind of humor I feel people have now. Who knows. Maybe I'm crazy. And the story is so adventurous! There is so much going on, and there really isn't a boring part of the book. Maybe that's why he did name it the "good parts". I can't exactly put my finger on what it is that is making me only give it four stars, it just didn't see phenomenal to me. The characters are HILARIOUS and so well developed, the story is great, and the narration is hilarious and so much fun. But I just didn't feel it was a 5 star book, for some odd reason.
One problem I did slightly have was I felt like William Goldman was kind of a butt. A hilarious butt, but a butt nonetheless. I feel like he was slightly making fun of Morgenstern. Or mocking him. He would be explaining what he cut out, and be basically making fun of Morgenstern for putting that or his logic. Also, why on the cover of the books is 'William Goldman' so big and Morgenstern so small? Morgenstern wrote the book! Not Goldman! It should stay Goldman in the tiny print even though it was abridged by him. I feel like if this is the book that gave him his fame, Goldman should have been giving SO MUCH CREDIT to Morgenstern. Yes, he did state very clearly that he wasn't the one who wrote it, but I don't even know how to explain it. I guess you guys will just have to read it for yourself and see what you think. It's adorable! Definitely recommended for all ages.

I don't think I've ever seen a more perfect adaption of a book than the Princess Bride movie. They're almost exactly the same and so (given that I grew up with the movie) it was a delight to read and wonderfully nostalgic. Very much a popcorn read, but still very genuine and heartfelt.
Wasn't a huge fan of the interjections (I'm very glad they cut out most of the interruptions in the movie) or the prologue (very much of it's time and says a lot about the narrator), but on the whole, an entertaining and delightful book
