This is one of those cases where, in my opinion, the movie is better. I absolutely love all of the story elements, but the tangents and the tangents of tangents just became too much. I don’t mind narrative interruptions like in this book, but they are overwhelming and distracting. I know how well loved this book is, so it was a bit disappointing for me. The actual story and characters are amazing, though.

I would call this a rare, vanishingly rare instance of the movie being better than the book, but the movie is so good that it's really not saying much about the book. It was especially charming to get the audiobook read by Rob Reiner. Highly recommend! You can always watch the movie again afterward.
