Initially, it felt like a normal story where Venkatesh was talking about his family but it all changed when the revelation of he and someone sharing a similar hierarchy. It intrigued me to dive further into the story and find out the truth. I didn't realize that there were two novellas in this book and assumed that Venkatesh and the other character Mukesh were related. I still doubt if they were related though since they share the same last names. I was a bit disappointed when I couldn't know what happened after Venkatesh was able to arrange for the debt. I wanted to know how it would end. However, Mukesh's story was more intricate and woven with care. There were many shock factors used aptly and it also made me cry a lot. Overall, Sudha Murthy didn't fail to bring the important issues of Indian Society to light which often go unnoticed.

The first story, Venkatesh, felt incomplete. I wish I could see happy faces of people in the end in that story too when, in fact, it was going in that direction only.

A simple and sweet read.
The bond described between Gauri and Venkatesh was beautiful.

This was my first Sudha Murthy's book, The mother I never knew is a book with two novellas, set in different backgrounds but somehow touches the same topic of motherhood and human relations.
Overall, both the stories contain the same message, the relationship between a mother and their child is the purest, this book delicately touches on the topic of motherhood. Both the stories were completely engrossing and touching.

One dimensional characters, simplistic- which was nice though.

Wow!! Sudha Murty's work really impressed me. I had earlier read her children's stories which I hd thoroughly enjoyed. But dis one, I didn't expect tat i wud finish it in one go. Both the stories were heart touching. Set in d backdrop of Bangalore, the sons in both the stories search fr their past/birth respectively. Apart from Venkatesh n Mukesh, there are other characters like gauri or sumathi tat yu wud really like. The author hd made it really simple nd at the same time touching. Definitely a goodread!!
