This is a cute story but it is so short I found myself continually waiting for the story to go somewhere major.
I'm not a fan of explicit sexual content but this was pretty okay. The karaoke offsets a lot of the speed the relationship develops though I do wish it had been a slower burn. Sam and Lily deserved the time to grow into themselves (and each other, wink) alongside their other relationships.

Graphic: Dysphoria, Sexual content, and Fatphobia
Moderate: Alcohol and Body shaming
Minor: Transphobia

Well this queer novella was super cute and delightful! Sam and Lily were really sweet together and I liked watching them go from crushes to one night stand to more. And the way Lily supports and encourages Sam was just the best.
I do have to be honest, I don't really like karaoke but the way Anita Kelly writes about it makes me see the appeal. I loved the safe and welcoming environment of Moonies and the connection everyone feels through music.
A big theme of SING ANYWAY is finding acceptance in yourself and believing that you can be loved just as you are. This is explored so well throughout the book and the non-binary rep and fat rep were written with such care.
A short, sweet read with steam and a lot of heart. I'm looking forward to reading more by this debut author.

Oh, I love it! The fat representation! The AMAB enby representation was so refreshing after reading too many sapphic novels that treat nonbinary folks as Women Lite™. The story itself was adorable, short and sweet. Just all around a great read.

Checked this out on Queer Liberation Library because there were unlimited copies of the audiobook(and a friend had recommended this last year☺️), and it was so cute!! Incredibly affirming to trans and fat bodies, and I loved how important self expression was to Sam and Lily’s relationship. Despite this being very short, both characters felt rounded out, and everything from their interactions to the setting of Moony’s felt very real! (Something that was definitely helped by Sam’s narration feeling pretty conversational.) (Also, I loved Sam in general! They felt like a funhouse mirror of my own experiences as a nonbinary person. Their conversations and thoughts about gender resonated so hard.)
Oh, and speaking of Sam and Lily, their chemistry was off the charts?? Phew.
Honestly, this was delightfully queer and I’m glad to have this be my first introduction to Anita Kelly! Some parts in Lily’s thoughts felt a little repetitive I admit, but I still really enjoyed this.
