This book is absolutely incredible. I'd love to adapt it but was told that it's un-adaptable. Hmmm...we...shall...seeeee...

In my review for Every Dead Thing, I pointed out how I hated shootouts and chases in novels.
The exception to the rule is Stephen Hunter.

This is a guy who can give intimacy to holding a gun and can hold you in the grips of a suspenseful chase without sounding like someone describing a movie. Dirty White Boys follows Lamar Pye, as Southern white trash as you can get, his man-child thug of a cousin, and weak newboy Richard, as they tear up Oklahoma state on a prison break.

Well written, pretty good characterizations, and you'll just rip right through it. Have fun.

Real nasty crime book that is way too long.

I've read epic fantasy novels that were shorter.

About halfway through, I hit this patch that just felt like it was repeating the same things, the same situations, the same phrases and mannerisms over and over and just put it down for like 6 months.

But power through that stuff and you will get a serious, solid, good book that was just too long for me to love.

The writing style of this is perfect. The descriptions are great and the characters are intriguing.

This really is one of those I wish I'd written.

Dirty White Boys delivers action scenes and depravity galore wrapped up in an Oklahoma accent. If you are looking for a Jack Reacher or Lucas Davenport substitute I would recommend you keep looking. If you want a decent action plot and don't care about good dialogue this book may be a favorite. I thought this book might have a tie to This author's Bob Lee Swagger character but it was slight and tenuous. This was a low 3 star book but it did finish on an upswing by building to the conclusion over the last 75 pages.

Smooth enough read, but I wasn’t invested in anyone’s fate.

Super violent and digusting. Just read the Swagger novels
