I have been meaning to read this book for years and I finally got around to it. Malala’s story is very inspiring and empowering. I related to many of the things she mentioned about her culture and people. Her courage to speak up and advocate for girls’ education, even when terrorists and everyone wanted to silence her is very inspiring. In the process I also learned a lot about Pakistan’s history and the rise of the Taliban which I was interested in learning about. I know Malala recently graduated from Oxford and got married and I am so proud and happy for her! This book was a great motivation boost and very informative, a must read! I also appreciated how easy and accessible the text was which enhanced my reading experience.

This book details Malala's life and how she opposed the Taliban for her right to education. The prologue of the book details the day that Malala got shot for trying to attend school. The subsequent chapters discussed Malala's life before the Taliban. According to the book, Malala's philosophies have always been a bit different. For example, Malala vehemently voiced not wanting to cover her skin like she is supposed to under Islamic law. The book then circles back around to the day Malala was shot. It then explains the aftermath of the shooting and Malala's long road to recovery. Overall, I found the book to be informative and educational. I just wish I would have read it using a different medium. I listened to the audiobook when I should have read the eBook.

My teacher made us skip a couple of chapters. I can't remember which ones exactly, but we stopped after she got shot and continued on when she woke up in the Birmingham hospital. So, I technically didn't read all of the book :/

I liked the Young Readers version, but I'm curious to know how different it is from the original version. I'm hoping to read that sometime soon :)

Wow. Malala is incredibly inspiring and her story left me in awe. The things that happened/are happening in Pakistan are terrible and I only hope that the situation has or will get better soon, and I hope Malala continues to speak out for girl's education rights.

Was this a literary masterpiece? No, but it is a book I will always carry with me. Her empathy and bravery serve as example to us all. Love and truth prevail.
