“All this he saw, for one moment breathless and intense, vivid on the morning sky; and still, as he looked, he lived; and still, as he lived, he wondered.”

I strongly recommend this edition with Robert Ingpen's illustrations. The book itself is beautifully published, but these illustrations are incredible. My favorite is at the beginning of the last chapter where Ingpen has managed to make the stoats and weasels look so incredibly surprised that Toad and friends have arrived to take back Toad Hall.
