This is book 2 in the shape series by Mac Barnett & I absolutely adored it!  It’s a simplistic appearing children’s book with two characters, Square & Circle. I love how so much depth of theme is provided indirectly and with few words. I think kids will find this interactive and hilarious while also giving a great message: sometimes we all have self doubt in what we create but to others it looks like a masterpiece.

I can't explain how special this series is to me in my school library and my personal life. My daughter and I have memorized Triangle, we're now working on Square. I just love sharing these odd, funny books with kids.

I love Mac Barnett, and I love Jon Klassen, so it wasn't surprising that I loved Square. This duo creates magical stories.

These books are beautifully illustrated and tell a wonderful little story. It is amazing how the authors were able to capture such humor in such simple stories. I absolutely delighted in reading these; I think these would be enjoyable for kids and adults to read over and over.

I liked this better than the first installment in this series. There's more of an emphasis on misunderstanding and needing to own up to the truth--so there's a little more of an obvious point to this book--but even that doesn't pan out in the end. I thought it had more humor that I could connect with. Maybe it's a little more morbid with the rain and the sadness? I'm not sure what it was, but I really liked this one. Now to wait in suspense for the third one!

For: readers wanting a book with shapes; readers wanting a kooky adventure story.

Possible red flags: lying/characters not being truthful; angst.
