I think it was really interesting and I learned a lot about the culture of Pakistan and part of me really wants to visit her beautiful valley someday. I was hoping there would be less about her father and what he was doing and more about her life as a girl in school and a girl in advocacy. Basically I think the whole thing should have been more like the last 1/4 of the book.

It took me FOREVER to finish this book. Felt like it was mandatory reading for class, which is too bad because, obviously, Malala's story is quite compelling. The second half is definitely more readable than the first, where she spends a lot of time to discussing Swat history and her father's life. I understand WHY this book was published quickly, but I think it could've waited until the author had more literary maturity.

I had pretty high hopes for this book, and it did not disappoint. My son and I read it together; he's nearly 13. We had a lot of conversations about what we read in this book... International politics, how lifestyles and belief systems vary from country to country, how similar we all are despite those cultural differences, the importance of equal rights and of education.
This book really blessed me. It was such an inspiration and I highly recommend it to everyone.
