Considering how ‘topical’ transness is in today’s media circus, to read such a variety of historical accounts of trans lives at how connected they are over hundreds of years was incredible, even if fictionalised.
In fact, I kept forgetting that these were short stories based on archival data and found myself googling the named individuals repeatedly. I guess that’s a testament to Jacques’ talents as a writer.

Loved the format of the book. The stories go in chronological order exploring different characters and experiences. Even in the brief space the characters were very developed andIreal. I occasionally got a bit confused by which parts were fictional and what was real but that is part of the immersive experience.
