I'm a big fan of Porcellino's minimalism and his lyrical takes on nature and being. This volume has less of the emphasis on nature and more of a focus on his health issues, including several discussions of his OCD and anxiety. My wife compared it to [a:Ellen Forney|202782|Ellen Forney|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1369720769p2/202782.jpg]'s [b:Marbles: Mania, Depression, Michelangelo and Me|19535099|Marbles Mania, Depression, Michelangelo and Me|Ellen Forney|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1387284955s/19535099.jpg|19107284], but where Forney attempts to put her bipolar issues into the wider context of creativity, Porcellino makes his journey almost entirely internal. It's a sometime frightening trip (with many attempts at different cures), but still with the lightness of tone that Porcellino excels at.

Always sublime, Porcellino captures the mysteries of his illness and weaves in his surroundings of every day life. I appreciated his depiction of his ongoing battle with OCD from the inside, how frustrating it can be to the person themselves, especially how he is self-conscious of it but can't deny its power over his life.

the art is basic but im kind of into it.
i think there is a discrepancy between how he is portrayed in true anxiety and in this book
but putting that aside and looking at hospital suite my itself....

The simple drawings in this were so powerful and the honesty in the author's recounting of his health problems and their impacts on his day-to-day life and relationships was poignant. I thought this was very well done.

I was not expecting such a grim tale! I think I was fooled by the spare, rounded style. But this is a story of a years-long health struggle that continues, I believe, for the author, and how his health affects his mental state, ideas about spirituality, and his relationships. It's terribly sad in parts and honest enough not to end on a happy note.

This book evokes anxiety better than anything I’ve ever read. It’s at times bizarre and disjointed, but the overall effect is impressive.
