I didn't like this one as much. I felt it was kind of slow and not much went on? I did like the little crush development between Gregor and Luxa.
I felt most of this book was just very sad and it's all setting up for this big unknown prophecy that no one wants to tell Gregor about.

This series is such an intense ride! I felt myself getting mad and crying and rooting for Gregor. This book and the last one were almost as if they ran into one book, since when you get to the last of this one you pretty much go right into the last one. I enjoy this series, even though there is so much death and sadness.

Because of the abrupt ending and an unfinished story obviously contingent upon the final book, it's hard to review this one by itself.
There are some new and interesting characters, the start of another dangerous adventure, and Gregor continues to exhibit bravery and maturity beyond his years. Boots is getting a bit more irritating with age (or with her inability to understand the seriousness of...well, of anything), but it's not a sticking point.
I have the last book cued up on my iPhone and will start it first thing in the morning. There will be a much longer review once I've finished the series.

I love the Gregor the Overlander Series very much. I began reading them a few years ago when a young girl recommended them to me and am just now getting to the rest of the series. When I ordered the set for myself and took a look at the author it hit me they are by the same author as the Hunger Games trilogy.
The two series, although for different age groups, have similar themes. Gregor ends up in a world he doesn't understand and it dragged into a war by being told he is an essential part. This series has a lovely Alice in Wonderland type feel. The main characters fall through a hole into a fantastical world.
This is a series for 11 to probably 14 year olds, who want to think. These books deal with complex themes and require thought; however, they are not overly violent. I love that about them.
