Since the death of Helen Nicoll, Meg and Mog stories have been written by someone else, and sadly this has meant that all of the charm has been sapped out.
I'm sure this style of storytelling will still appeal to a huge audience, but the story just had no flow, seeming more like a comic strip than a storybook (and definitely making it an awkward choice for a storytime session, as it just didn't end up making any sense).
The illustrations are still by Jan Pienkowski, which is the only saving grace - they're still as memorable as the Meg and Mog drawings from my childhood. However, I'm definitely going to make sure to read older Meg and Mog stories to my little one.
