Pocas veces se tiene la oportunidad de conocer los autores y libros que han formado a los grandes literarios. En éste podemos entender el origen y evolución de las posturas sociales, económicas y políticas de Mario Vargas Llosa.

Das Buch enthält sehr lesenswerte, informative ud gutgeschriebene Essays über wichtige liberale Denker und deren Zeit sowie ihre spätere Rezeption.
Wäre es nicht als intellektuelle Autobiographie angekündigt, wäre ich damit mehr als zufrieden gewesen. Doch ich hatte die Fehlvorstellung, mehr über Vargas Llosa und seine eigene Entwicklung zu erfahren. Dies geschieht leider eher andeutungsweise.
The book contains very readable, informative, and well-written essays on important liberal thinkers and their times, as well as their later reception.
Had it not been billed as an intellectual autobiography, I would have been more than satisfied with it. But I had the misconception that I would learn more about Vargas Llosa and his own development. Unfortunately, this is done rather suggestively.

Pedante y soberbio en sus declaraciones, sólo convence al convertido.
Demasiado detalle en puntos obvios y a la vez grandes saltos en la lógica de sus argumentos para defender su idea de liberalismo.
Buen resumen de la biografía y obras de los principales pensadores liberales del siglo XX.

N-as fi scris niciodata aceasta carte daca n-as fi citit, acum mai bine de douazeci de ani, To the Finland Station de Edmund Wilson. Acest eseu fascinant infatiseaza evolutia ideii de socialism din momentul in care istoricul francez Jules Michelet, intrigat de un citat, s-a apucat sa invete italiana pentru a-l citi pe Giambattista Vico, la sosirea lui Lenin in Gara Finlanda, la Sankt Petersburg, la 3 aprilie 1917, pentru a conduce Revolutia Rusa. Mi-a venit atunci ideea unei carti care sa faca pentru liberalism ceea ce criticul nord-american facuse pentru socialism: un eseu care, pornind de la nasterea lui Adam Smith in 1723, in orselul scotian Kirkcaldy, sa relateze evolutia ideilor liberale prin vocea principalilor sai exponenti, si evenimentele istorice si sociale care le-au facut sa se raspandeasca in lume. Desi departe de acel model, aceasta este originea indepartata a cartii Chemarea tribului.

Interesante autobiografía intelectual y mejor escrita que, por ejemplo, los artículos quincenales de "Piedra de Toque" del mismo autor. De los siete autores mencionados, los que más llamaron mi atención fueron los más desconocidos para mí, ambos franceses: Aron y Revel. Presumo que pronto a algunos de sus libros les haré click en "Want to read" en esta misma página.

Nunca había leído a Mario Vargas Llosa como ensayista y me ha sorprendido muy gratamente. Puedes estar de acuerdo o no con el, pero lo explica todo de maravilla, es un gustazo leer a alguien que explica tan bien.
Totalmente recomendado aunque políticamente estés en sus antípodas, mucho que sacar de este libro.
