Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman

4 star book that gets an extra one for the absolutely brilliant Lenny Henry reading in the audible version. It is not American Gods #2, it is a much lighter and funnier spin off of a minor (In AG) God, but it has its roots firmly in London and the Caribbean via a bunch of Florida biddies, all gloriously interpreted by Lenny Henry.

I suspect I’m in the minority here once again, because unlike [b:American Gods|4407|American Gods|Neil Gaiman|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1258417001s/4407.jpg|1970226], I think Anansi Boys is a grand old romp. It’s just fun, and I like all the characters (except poor Rosie, who somehow completely fails to have a personality—how did that happen?), and it’s one of those Gaiman stories where, while I am never especially surprised by it, I don’t mind at all because it goes exactly where I feel it should go, where the ideal story must go. It’s comfort food.

A fun and easy read that didn't thrill me, but captured my attention. The magically elements were quirky and a bit slap stick, and there were many convenient crossings of character's paths, so the overall tone was jolly despite the action packed scenes of kidnapping and murder.

Not as good as American gods but such a fun read — a very well crafted story and I love the mythological aspects
