Tell Me How You Really Feel was SO CUTE!

I adored the depth to the main characters, Sana and Rachel and thoroughly enjoyed all the film references.

The exploration of femininity and the way it challenged Rachel’s negative perceptions of ‘pretty girls’. The parallel between Sana and Helen of Troy throughout the novel was so interesting and added a lot of background depth to her and successfully built up Rachel’s character development as well.

Their relationship made my little heart flutter, it was everything I could have wanted when I was in high school and I honestly love a bit of miscommunication sometimes with the enemies to lovers vibes. It was equal parts playful and angsty and I feel like it struck the perfect balance!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with the audiobook in exchange for my honest thoughts. The author, Amindah Mae Safi, did a wonderful job reading and I had a great time listening to her characters go about their lives in the way that she intended them to.

I have mixed feelings about this one. I feel like I should have enjoyed the journey more, but what I appreciated the most was the unconventional resolution.

The "enemies-to-lovers" and how these characters are forced together. Additionally, both girls get their own perspective, but they each have their own unique voice.

This is such a comfort book. I love it so much.

I don't think I paid enough attention to how they explore the figure of Helen of Troy the first time I read this novel, but I sure did this time and it was so good. I think it's very interesting how the plot is built on the film Rachel wants to do and, as we later find out, how the character of Helen of Troy plays a key role in it. This makes her not only the through line for the movie, but also for the book and I'm in awe. Genius move, really.

Moving onto the characters, I have to admit that Rachel got on my nerves a couple of times. I understand she's got some serious abandoment issues and that's why whenever someone is good to her or seems to like her she doesn't think they're being honest and instead thinks they're joking. However, my problem is how because of that she's just extremely rude. Like, girl, I know you've been hurt and are going through a lot but not everyone has it against you. Her character development was great, though, and I love her so much. Seeing her work through her issues and learn how to rely on people made me really proud.

Regarding Sana, her character focuses on the pressure of having to be perfect all the time because her family depends on it. They have all put their expectations on her and that is such a huge burden to carry, which is totally unfair to her. I like how she navigates through this and how it all resolves in the end. I admire her for standing up to her family and not letting anyone change her mind about what she wants to do with her life.

Now, about the ending. I know the first time I read it I said it felt kinda rushed and not developed enough, but I'm taking that back. It was perfect. Although I wish we got a few more chapters, or maybe an epilogue, to see how they're doing after everything and how their relationship has grown.

First of all, the cover is the cutest thing I've seen in my entire life. I'm obsessed with it.

When I started reading it I wasn't fully into it because of how mean and rude Rachel was, but I still wanted to give it a try and I'm so happy I did. This book was everything I wanted it to be and I had a blast reading it today. However, the reason why I'm not giving it five starts is because of the ending. I think it was too rushed and sudden and I kind of expected more. I wanted more. But regardless of how I feel about the ending I can say without a doubt that this book has a special place in my heart now.
