Totally stealing Jackie the Librarian's review format...

Things I liked:
- Huge panels
- Minimal text (although vocab isn't particularly simple)
- Latchkey kid depiction
- Unique characterization of Gabby
- Quirky aspects of Gator - computer, sorta dangerous
- Tuba dancing

Things I didn't like:
- Stereotypical characters - football player, cheerleaders
- Depiction of animal control

So, I guess the Likes win. This is going on my E Graphic Novels list in case my library system ever creates an Easy Graphic Novel subcollection.

An unlikely friendship develops between a vegetarian outcast and an alligator that just can't control his hunger. There are some borderline cringe-y parts.

My only annoyance was how crazy eco-friendly the little girl was. That was a little random and stupid.

Super cute! This graphic novel is thick, but the illustrations (which are quite whimsically awesome, BTW) are big and bold and the pages will turn quickly. Will appeal to a fairly wide audience, I think.

Super charming graphic novel. Love seeing graphic novels about little girls. Gentle message about kids (and gators) who don't fit in but really want to. Lots of panels with minimal or no text and lots of white space so it doesn't look intimidating. Great choice for a reluctant/struggling reader. Will definitely check out James Burks's other books.

ALL RIGHT! Unexpected events drive the plot of this classic mismatched-friends story. Think an interspecies Lethal Weapon, but with more laughs, fewer criminals, and no sex. In fact, don't think of Lethal Weapon at all. No. Don't. Think about if the kid on the tricycle in The Incredibles befriended a voracious alligator and then had to bust the alligator out of the pokey and reform the alligator's pet-eating ways, meanwhile being defended - by the alligator - against Biff, the jocky a-hole from Back to the Future.

Did I mention that the alligator LOOVES Gabby's tuba playing? Hee hee hee!

I had so much fun reading this book. A great odd couple friendship story with a message about standing up to your fears or challenges.

Adorable GN that will be impossible to keep on the shelves. I'm sure students will love both Gabby & Gator!

Fun for younger readers. Has a good message on acceptance.
