It was like "Homie" ;) was written for me. I picked this book up months ago and put it down because of my relationship to language- I was intimidated in this reflection of self that seemed to have found liberation in loss, love, harm, and reclamation. After reading it, I read it again, following along with the audiobook, listening to Smith's intentional pauses, overlapping words, and the care in each name pronounced.

as you don’t know i enjoy poetry books. I enjoy them for the quick and I enjoy them because sometimes I always relate to the author. Homie was different, the author was speaking about friendships and relationships that he’s been through as queer person existing
I suggest you pick up the book.
Favorite poems: my president (pg 1-3), jumped! (pg 8-10) and self portrait as 90’s R&B video (pg 30-31)
This was a library book but I want to buy it

I wish I could give this 5 stars but honestly half the poems didn’t make sense to me; entirely not the poets fault… I just need to give the poems more time to sit and resonate. Probably will read them again if I acquire a copy of it again but my aunt loaned it to me and I already have it back.
