При всём презрении, которым я при соответствующем настроении могу окатить "лёгкие жанры" в литературе, я имею приличных размеров ахиллесову пяту - это Вудхауз. Я в этом честно и неоднократно признавался - и книги люблю, и экранизацию.

Так что иногда беру вот так вот и читаю книжку-другую. Да, довольно однообразный сюжет и герои совсем не меняются. Но вот смотрят же люди комиксы? А я читаю Вудхауза.

Конкретно эта книга - не длинная повесть, а сборник из десятка небольших рассказов о приключениях придурковатого аристократа и его сообразительного слуги. Я получил огромное удовольствие - а что ещё надо?

Seriously no idea when I really first read this. Anglophilia struck too early for me even to know when it happened (Mary Poppins? Milne? That would be odd considering how poorly he and Plum got along), but it happened and this is the deepest and most abiding symptom, what?

I can't remember for sure if I've read this one before. It's hard to keep track when I've watched the show, listened to the BBC dramatizations, listened to unabridged audio, read them in collected works with selected stories picked out, etc. But this one has some of the absolute classics in.

I'd actually say that reading this again, I was more impressed with the writing than the hilarity of the plots. Once he makes a joke in this one, he tends to double down and then triple down with better jokes you didn't think could follow.

I just love these every time. I read them when I need a laugh and a boost, but they're so well written and witty that I'm edified as well.
