Not special, but a good light read. If you like Stross's Laundry Files series, you'll like this; and they're different enough not to be digging the same turf.

The plot is fairly strong, the wisecracks good, and Peter's development is credibly drawn. The police procedural parts are believable, with some good practical real-life parts included. We see the problems that authors (and readers) can get into when some characters are, er, older than others.

Just as I was becoming disappointed at
Spoiler learning what we already suspected about Simone
, I was pleased by the added detail that
SpoilerSHE didn't know.
.

Not as sure about the Simone-or-Leslie thing, but at his age it's at least plausible.

I've already read #3 but I'll go on to #4 now.
