Fun book, quick read - more than I expected it to be- finally read as an adult!! L focussed a lot on fighting on the ship, managing life on the island  & not as long on finding the actual treasure  - some old words which I had to look up. Reading as an adult the historical things were interesting - how they referred to people and food consumed on the ship.

Impressive how many of our classic pirate tropes originate here. Long John Silver is also truly such A Character, an OG blorbo, Stevenson's problematic fave -- you can tell how much fun he's having writing him. But my favorite part of the book, as it has been since childhood, is still the opening at the Hawkins family inn with Billy Bones and the Black Spot. Brr! Nothing brings the good creepy-chillies quite so much as that.

Rightfully a classic, but nothing ruins a classic like having to study it.

I would leanr towards more a 3.5 out of 5. I read this book mainly while waiting for appointments so there was big gaps inbetween reading which might have lowered the ranking. But over all it was a nice fast read, once I sat down and read it. It never really slowered but there was words I guess I wasn't to formalier of so I just put it for the time and that it was a sea talking book. I did find it a little last lacker when it came to the story I guess I wanted more pirate fighting or something. May re-read this but I think I will not have waited so long inbetween reads.
