Overall a great novel, but some of the characterization just rubbed me the wrong way. Also, way more gorey than I expected.

I was so bored. It’s supposed to be a mystery about a murder so why was it so boring. I had to force myself to keep going.

This was a quick and fun read! It brought me back to my Veronica Mars days, with a quippy but hardened P.I. solving the mystery of her sister's girlfriends death. BUT! The setting is a magic highschool, so let the nerding out commence. No but, no lie, I liked the magic system even if sometimes it fell to the wayside, and I liked the process of figuring out the clues. It wasn't too easy or too hard for the MC. And I appreciate that a lot of the mystery was surrounding the subject of reproductive health care, even if it was in a fantasy setting.

TBH I read this book because the author is nonbinary, their author bio uses They/Them pronouns, and anytime I see that I want to read the book. Mostly because I know that the author is standing up for who they are!

A good murder mystery, w some magic thrown in: 4 outta 5 strs

A fun fantasy and mystery novel that's a great read for any fans of magic and whodunnits. Galley creates characters that seem incredibly flawed and human. She turns the fantasy into something normal and does a great job creating a world within a one-off novel. I'd love to read more books like this.
