I picked this issue up from my local library without reading the issues around it. It was a decent self-standing title, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had a clearer idea of what was going on.

This one was absolutely amazing. It's a very moving storyline, and it even had me crying at the end.
It delves into relationships between parents and children and how complicated those relationships can be. It also shows the relationships developing between different team members, and I think it shows that development really well.
This book is where the series really hits its stride.

Adoption and family relationships play a big role in this one.lberestecki's review

I loved this first two volumes in this X-Men run, but this volume fell short for me. I really felt like I was missing some big things from other X-Men titles, and I just wasn't that invested in the plot overall. Something about it just felt rushed. I did like Jubilee much more in this volume than I have liked her in the past though! I also thought Kymera was an interesting character.

This went a little off the rails for me personally. I think maybe it ties in pretty closely with [b:X-Men: Battle of the Atom|18295931|X-Men Battle of the Atom|Brian Michael Bendis|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1381325416s/18295931.jpg|25778768], which I still haven't read?
Anyway, it just seemed really convoluted, even for X-Men.

I really liked this storyline, and I'm looking forward to see where it leads. I think the plot and the writing in general are improving, and I still like the drawings.

Suddenly, Shogo has a father! Who magically knows where he is! And can escape from prison by "adapting" to sedatives! And has an established network of secret bases and mercenary goons!
The villain for this volume was dumb and constantly mustache twirling, the art was (typical for this run) anywhere from excellent to just flat-out ignoring character designs, depending on the artist.
The core team is still solid and I'm glad they're working to make this team "official" - they'll probably solve all their issues just in time for the guys to come back and take over.
Overall, I like this best if I ignore the plot and just think of it as a villain-of-the-week that gives everybody a chance to stretch.

Better than volume 2 by leaps and bounds. But there is still a level of wtf is going on here for me. Mostly because I didn't follow the history of X Men before Brian Wood took over. Like when did Jubes become a vampire???? Storm has a future daughter??? Timelines are weird.
