Of all that I have read so far of Lovecraft, this was the longest story. It wasn't too long, but it kind of shows that Lovecraft might have struggled with longer work. The story itself was tense and enjoyable to read (except the few weird moments of racist comments that was not needed at all). The downside, at least for me, with this story, which stops it from having a higher rating, is the fact that I had guessed what the twist was, where it was going and how it would possibly end around the middle of the story.

I guessed correctly, which shows that Lovecraft did forshadowing well enough, but the lack of surprises made it a bit less enjoyable. It was less trying to figure out what would happen next and more comfirming pages later what I had guessed already had happened.

What even is this. I'm sorry i really tried reading and liking it but it was so. Boring.
Its not scary or interesting or in any way appealing and i'm halfway through. theres just a bunch of descriptions of people this guy investigates about from the past and how weird they are but everything is so long i cant stay focused and actually pay attention to whats happening. so just. No
