This is a (kind of surprisingly) soothingly eerie picture book! It has darkish moments where Sister Strange buries old bones, swims in slimy bogs, and peers in the readers window, but all these elements that could be slightly scary for a kid are made enjoyable with the rhyme pattern, lovely art, and comfy forest ending. The only thing that actually super creepy is the illustration of the bear's face- DAMN. That bear looks soulless and I don't like it...

Like the Snatchabook, but with a little more ambiance and a little less plot.

This book is legit creepy but I LOVED it. Probably not the best fit for easily spooked kiddos, but the kiddos who love strange + oddball stories (AKA my childhood self) will *love* this.

I love this book. The perfect mixture of spooky and charming. I want to be wee sister strange.

While I adore the concept of this picture book, the inconsistency of the rhyming pulled me out of the story entirely and prevented me from enjoying it.

2.5 stars. The illustrations were so pretty, but the story was pretty dull. Also it seemed like maybe it was supposed to rhyme... but then it didn't really? Except for some parts when it did?
