I cannot say if I liked or not this book. The plot sounded interested but the book sounded a bit dry and not all the expectations were met.
The historical background is well reaserched but the development of the characters and of the plot could have been better.
Many thanks to Soho Crime and Edelweiss for the ARC

I like Redfyre and his milieu, but I do not like the author taking an interminably long time to set the stage. The backstory eventually becomes important, but the author is way too coy about not stating the name of the "interviewee" from whom the long start of the story comes forth. Regrettable. I'll try again with the next book, but the author seems to be working a tad too hard at her stories these days.

Clever and complicated plot. Lots of historical details and clearly well-researched for a properly timely feel and fabulous details. Unfortunately, most of the character are bland, shakily-defined, or downright unlikeable. After an entire book, I still don't know much about Redfyre's personality and that irks - especially when there is such an awful lot of dialogue.

It also violated, time and again, one of Knox's Ten Commandments - The detective is bound to declare any clues which he may discover.

More like 2.5 stars. I found the characters flat. Although the book evoked the golden age of mystery it was lacking in character development. The story just did not move.

Overall a good mystery but a bit dry / slow in spots.

Didn't care for the tone of the prose. Frivolously wordy.
