Even more powerful hearing Gay's perspective in her voice rather than just reading the words alone.

I really enjoyed this memoir! I listened to the audiobook and I feel like it made the experience so much better. I think a lot of people (especially young women) can relate to Gay's analysis of her own life and how weight gain and self-image can impact us while we're young and influence our relationships well into adulthood. Although this memoir mainly centered around Gay's relationship with food, hunger, and self-image I appreciated the parts about living as a black woman in the Midwest and feeling out of place in academia because of your race and size. Definitely read! (or listen lol)
Graphic: Rape, Eating disorder, and Fatphobia
Moderate: Domestic abuse, Body shaming, Emotional abuse, and Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Alcohol
