Aw. . . what a super cute book! I'm a sucker for graphic novels and this one doesn't disappoint. Telgemeier does a great job of depicting a) the "drama" of middle school and high school and b) the Bay area! Lots of people of color here. Also, I am committed to never having my teeth pulled or braces added. I'm sure this, too, was realistic but OW! I look forward to reading her other books.

I just love these books! There are very few things I would change. I love the artwork, it's not too crazy and the colors are fun! I can't wait to pick up the second one in the series.

Any child who has to go through major dental procedures (and the accompanying embarrassment) will appreciate this graphic novel. The story spans quite a few years, detailing the author's own experiences with broken teeth and braces. I loved the message about walking away from those who don't have your best interests at heart. Not always an easy to do, but crucial for one's happiness! :) Looking forward to reading the sequel!

it’s a cute graphic novel and a perfect one for a younger audience! i can relate to a lot of raina telgemeier’s graphic novels. they also helped me a lot when i was younger (especially sisters and guts). definitely recommend if you want a cute, relatable graphic novel!

Super good middle-grade graphic novel. Raina Telgemeier's art is some of the most friendly and readable art I've seen- it fits her stories so well!
I rated this keeping in mind the intended audience, but even though it's meant for younger readers than myself, I still thought it was funny and relatable. We've ALL been awkward kids at some point. Also, I'm glad this book exists for kids who have braces/dental issues so they can see that it's quite normal, like Raina points out in her book.

I wish I read this when I was in middle school & had to wear rubber bands across my face for my cross bite & braces for a year & a half! I liked the art style & knowing it was a memoir, I really felt for Raina & how she was treated by her friends while growing up. This is a really good way for middle schoolers and those just starting high school to feel less alone. I'm going to read the whole series now ♡

Wow. The detail about the dental stuff was cringe-inducingly accurate. As were the recollections about how junior high friends are sometimes pretty crappy friends. Delightful art, great SF backgrounds and family scenes, and very nostalgia-relevant for those of us with strong memories of the original NES.
