I was sucked in right away by the premise of HEAD OVER FEELS, a new adult sports romance with Sophia, a good girl who works for a charity and isn’t a risk taker, and Aidan, a rugby player and painter who is carrying around a lot of PTSD and anxiety because his father died of Huntington’s disease, and he fears he may carry the same gene. Sophia and Aidan meet one night at a charity event where his painting is on display and they have instant chemistry. They sizzle together on every page and I really liked them as a couple. But Aidan is haunted by memories of his father’s last years and the toll it took on his mother as a caretaker and can’t allow himself to move forward with any sort of serious commitment, not without knowing if he carries the gene that could end his life early. I really liked the way the book handled hereditary illness and Aidan’s struggle with whether to get tested. There was an especially moving scene with his mother where she helped him to reframe some of the memories he had of her experiences as a caretaker that I thought was especially good. And of course Aidan and Sophia have to find a way to move forward… along with surprises that life throws at them along the way. Enjoyed this one! 5/5 stars.
