Emotionally charged ride from page 1 to the end

This was an emotional ride from the very first page to the last. This story expanded on Khon-Tor's Wrath by explaining the repercussions of his actions on Adia. They were far reaching and more devastating than anyone could imagine and the author spent well-earned time and energy exploring the facets of Adia's and other characters, making them come alive off the page. The second instalment in this series did not disappoint and I look forward to the third!

Well...more emotional trauma for everyone!

SpoilerJust as I thought Adia was pregnant from the rape and the story found a way to sneakily give Khon’Tor the 'right' to raise it--This happens when the council decided that Adia could stay a Healer only if she choose between raising the child she saved, or her growing bio kid...the other of which she has to give up to Khon’Tor's wacked out mate Hakani, (at her request btw)

description

Which pisses Khon’To off because she's using the kid as a bargaining chip not because he actually cares about the child. For how obsessed he was with Adia for years he seemingly lost interest really quick and didn't give two shits about her or his own baby afterwards. Instead this delusional asshole turned his new sick desire onto his mate. Why did she die but he is still alive at this point?

description

Also, I didn't like that no one was saying anything about what Khon’Tor did. At this point plenty of people know but won't say anything. Its just sad that his "perceived potential" is greater than his abhorrent crime being punished or Adia getting justice. Le sigh.

Don't think I will read on atm- but might swing back by this series another time when my heart can handle it.

After racing through book 1 (I couldn't put it down), I was eager to move onto book 2 and it was even better than the first book. Please, please, don't make the mistake of thinking that this series is just for fans of bigfoot. Do you like stories about family, tested-loyalty, honour and power struggles? Then this series is for you. Do you like soap operas? Then this series is for you. Do you like reality TV? Then this series is for you. There is an impossible decision at the centre of the story and a touching love connection too, all topped off with an explosive ending. It went from drama to drama and I was just eating that popcorn as I feverishly flipped the pages, enthralled. Although it's set in an imagined, pre-historic era, the themes and relationships are universal. Roberts has created characters that I want to stick with for the length of the series. I can't recommend this highly enough. It's a phenomenal series. Now, I'm off to read book 3 - I can't wait to see what happens next!
