Any day with a new Laundry story is a good day; this time around we find Bob Howard chasing down an odd report of a unicorn infestation armed only with a florid, overwrought letter from one H. P. Lovecraft. This is a really fun one.

I dipped out on this one because I found the prose annoying. Judging by some of the reviews here, I didn't even get to the worst part.

Also, why does a Hugo winner have a typo? IMO it would be best to go ahead and fix those.

As with all of the Laundry novels, it was excellent. Just a shame it was a Novella rather than a full novel. Loved it.

Lovecraftian pastiche with a splash of Delta Green. This novella is a part of the Laundry Files, and fits in there with the test of them. Good as always.

I now know more about the horrors of unicorn reproduction than any sane person would want ;P

If you like My Little Pony, Lovecraft, James Bond, and are an IT nerd, you will definitely enjoy this novella. It is not nearly as hilarious as it sounds, but rather the darkest Laundry fiction Stross has come up with so far.

Go, Hugo packet, for making me actually read some of the stuff that I should have read before now.

Kind of loved this a lot. And suspect that I'm going to end up purchasing the rest of the Laundry Files books at some stage.

(see, this is why the Hugo packet is awesome for publishers and authors - it leads to sales!)

Very very poor writing. The story just rambles on and on and on. I get that this is a monster story but I can take out the name of the monster and replace it with cute bunnies and the story will still work. I don't get why this story is so well liked. There is no payoff to the story nor any explanation for the anticipation built. All in all very very disappointing.

Read this and you'll never think of unicorns the same way.
