She developed each character’s backstory so well except for Trey’s, I feel like. Yeah, we hear he has two older brothers he’s never met, and mom ditched him at school. But what was the dynamic and everything like? We got in-depths of Luke, Nina, even Smits.

Regardless, enjoyable to read. Nice to see character development.

These are great short books. I recommend them for upper elementary. Although any older age can enjoy them too. They are all about the same group of Shadow Children (illegal third-borns), but in each book a different character is spotlighted. Makes it interesting, but also makes it so that you need to read them pretty close together so you remember what is going on! I have two left.

Brave, thats a good word to describe the shadow children who risk their lives on a daily basis just because they are alive. Will the governmet ever relent this crazy system that makes their very existance illegal.
