Have you ever walked into an antique shop or estate sale and thought, "What kind of history is etched in the items? What if I could hear their stories?"

First off let me say that I'm not usually a reader of horror books. While they intrigue me and have read my share, I've never quite had a love for "dark stories". But...I wanted to read this one because I know the author. Thomas and I grew up in the same town in Virginia, lived in the same neighborhood and went to the same school.

With that being said and bias aside, I thought this book was intriguing and disturbing. It starts with a jolt and doesn't stop. I loved to hate Frank, the main character's jerk of a husband. I found myself wishing I could reach into the pages and choke the life out of him.

The themes of the story - call them dark, off-limits, taboo, evil, whatever - hit you in the gut and just kept hitting. Thomas did a great job at letting you in on the character's thoughts, as uncomfortable as they were at times. His writing will grab you and not let go until the book is over.

The focus of the book a is a beautiful, old Queen Anne chair that once belonged to Major Eirch Schröder of the SS organization under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party that the main character, Rebecca, bought as a surprise for her abusive, husband. Little did she know she got a lot more than antique armchair, she also got a hellish nightmare.

If you like a realistic type horror, pick up a copy of this book, I promise it will not disappoint.
