As always, a very addictive story accompanied by beautiful art that keeps you turning pages. Rating low only because it was not as good as his more recent book “The Electric State,” which I unfortunately read first, so I was expecting this to be on par with Electric States’ storyline.

For the most part, he kept to his recipe of incredible environmental story telling, paired with disturbing anecdotes, which introduce you to this post-“Tales from the Loop” world.

However I was slightly disappointed that the mysterious character featured on the cover is a very fleeting plot point of the book, and not a main character. I was very intrigued by them, and hope the “Nomads” feature more heavily in future projects.

Still very enjoyable, though I now know I have an order I’d recommend the books be read in to avoid the same disappointment.

Please read this book, it takes an hour or less if you aren't stuck transfixed by the beautiful illustrations. The world of this book feels so familiar as a Scandinavian and it's a real treat to see a dystopia not in a major American city. To see places and things from my childhood corrupted beyond repair or recognition was breathtaking. I loved seeing what would be next, especially if it was gross and fleshy. While there is a "story", it feels more like a collection of memoirs that give the impression of a life lived in this world that is so similar and different all at once. A must read for any fan of sci-fi or horror.

Things in the Loop get downright Lovecraftian, as the narrator relates more incidents from his youth, providing glimpses into a larger and ever darker tale of science gone awry and seeping into the world. More amazing illustrations, more vignettes from an ordinary life surrounded by extraordinary things.

I’d love to read more on the “Vagabonds”. (a well-thought-out) Android religion? Sign me up! Tho they’re heavily coded with indigenous(+ a little African) visual cues. This book served so many intriguing ideas with just a glimpse of them therefore left (or allowed) a huge room for readers’ own interpretation and imagination.

Simply amazing. You can see the details of the paintings very well. Prepare to be in awe of his ability to observe the world around him and recreate it very realistically (or surrealistically, with the robots and dinosaurs), not just how different surfaces look matte, shiny, bright, slippery, round or sharp, but also the impressionistic quality of human vision in the peripheries and at distance. He is a very good scenery painter, and his imagination is just amazing.

I was also surprised by how good the narrative is; I wish there were more artists combining storytelling with their art. The English version reads a bit too much like a translation at times, but I actually like how the Swedishness seeps through.
