I really enjoyed this book - the plot is so clever and I love the magic! I think I would’ve enjoyed it even more if there was a dictionary attached 😂 I couldn’t keep up with all the words so spent a good majority of the book kinda confused.

Love the representation - Black history, micro aggressions explained, queer love, a non-binary character - and it was all done so tastefully.

I’m learning that I really don’t like reading present tense books??! I switched to the audiobook about halfway through and really enjoyed that, but I was in a bit of a slump, for a week, in the middle.

I would have loved this book as a teen, so I’m trying to keep that in mind (though I did age up the characters in my mind). Some of the dialogue was just so cringey, it really took me out of the story at points, which is such a shame because the story itself was SO GOOD.

Ima need
Sel and Bree
to fall inlove immediately xo (Bonus points if
Sarah leaves Tor for Alice lol
)

was entirely too entertained with this. can’t even front this shit was gas. i loved the inclusivity in this book and the fact it’s set in UNC Chapell Hill campus. I love the use of black history. I love all of it. was never even really into king arthur shit but this went crazy. i love the use of grief in this. ugh it’s just good

A great start and a great ending. Coulda cut out most of everything in between, but it was good enough to keep me reading. (Although not in a page-turny way.) Feels like they stretched out an awesome story to make a slooowwww trilogy.
.
It took waaaaaaay too long to reveal what was ‘up’ with the main character. It could have been great way sooner if she’d come into her own power sooner.
.
The love triangle is a bit teeny bopper, which will likely make teeny boppers love it even more. Strangely, I found the sullen boy to be a more compelling character. I’m usually annoyed/disgusted by the sullen-horrible-males-are-attractive trope. Maybe it’s because you know from early on there’s more to it.
.
Some of the points the author was trying to make throughout—while important—weren’t woven in naturally enough, so they ended up pulling me out of the story. Maybe on purpose so younger readers wouldn’t overlook them? Dunno. But I’ve seen it done better in other YA.
.
The last handful of chapters saved it though. I’m definitely gonna finish the slooowwww trilogy. Hopefully it’ll be more like the end and less like the everything else.
