Love the spunk of the characters and the context and the magic, gets a little repetitive in the plot for me but for younger readers this could be really good.

The characters’ relationships with each other are so playful and loving, it’s such an enjoyable cast! And the grandma is so cool. I initially thought the ending would be wrapped up neatly but I loved how Ortega stretched it out and added more complicated twists. Truly a wonderful ending!

I LOVED THIS!!! It was so atmospheric, not just because of the ghost element, but the description of the setting too. The scavenger hunt-style of the story was really engaging, and the characters were fab. I loved Lucely and Sid’s relationship, and also that Babette was given a role outside of being a grandmother. My one peeve with this is that I wished that the ghosts were fleshed out as characters a little more as I was really interested in their histories and dynamics. Regardless, I can’t wait to read more of Ortega’s work.
As a side note, I did listen to the audiobook for this and was not my fave. The narrator made the dialogue sound kind of cheesy and stilted at times, and wasn’t good at conveying tension.

This book was so much fun!! I loved the characters, the setting, and the magic in this book. I listened to it on audiobook (the narrator is fantastic, by the way!) while working, and I would LOVE to get my hands on a physical copy to read. This is definitely an author that I will be watching too!
