I read this to PreK and kindergarten students in honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. We had tons of fun singing out "bee-bim bop!" every time it was mentioned in the story. We learn what bop and bee-bim mean in Korean. Then we practiced setting our tables for dinner just like the main character and proceeded to pretend to make bee-bim bop in our bowls.

This book makes me hungry, and it has a bee bim bap recipe in the back. Also, it got the preschoolers curious about new types of food!

Absolutely love this book, just perfect, energetic and joyful, a celebration of bibimbop/beebimbop and cooking and eating and family and Korean culture, filled with beautiful illustrations.

In bouncy, rhyming text, a young child helps her mother make bee-bim bop for dinner. They start at the store, then take the ingredients home to prepare. It is a cute story that accurately portrays a child's excitement for their favorite dish.

My daughter wasn't enthralled by the simple story of helping to make dinner, but it was a welcome addition to learning more about Korean culture. I liked how the whole family included the grandma, and that the text explained that Bi bim bap means "mix it"! It's one of my favorite dishes, and we occasionally make it at home.
