GREAT, GORY, ABSOLUTLY AMAZING!! Great book, the story embraces you and makes everything so real to the point you can feel and see all the things that are being described in the most realistic way.
Its the type of book you read and think "This should be turned into a movie ASAP"

I love Carrie by Stephen king so when I found this book I needed to read (/listen to) it!
I think the author did a great job with taking a story and making it her own version.

The story line was very similar to Carrie which I didn't really mind but of course you automatically compare the two. Carrie gives me more of a horror vibe also because I think her mother is so much more creepy than Maddie's father (he is more just a piece of sh*t yikes) and Carrie is more... Bloody I guess?
HOWEVER, I still loved this book for what it is and how the author handled the topic of racism. Very disturbing and sad!

I wanted to give it 4,5 stars but since I gave this to the original Carrie and I do like that one a tiny bit more, it's a 4,25.

It took me a few chapters to get into this one, and I was worried at first that a Carrie retelling wasn’t going to be all that new or interesting to me. I ended up really enjoying The Weight of Blood though (as much as one can enjoy a tale seeped in racism), and I thought that Jackson did a great job putting her own spin on a classic.

I initially picked it up because I thought it would be perfect for my Spooky Season reading list, but this book is definitely light on traditional horror elements and well-drenched in psychological dread instead.

An incredible modern reimagining of Carrie. This story holds it's own punches while holding such a beautiful tribute to a classic.

Listen to the audiobook. Listen to the audiobook. Listen to the audiobook. You’ll get way more out of this if you listen to the audiobook. The sound effects and the the cast of narrators really moved this story along.

I will admit, I did not enjoy Carrie, it’s not my usual genre that I read. I DNF it twice. I have never really sat through the movie in one sitting. However, this retelling, this modernization of Carrie was phenomenal. There were parts of it that were uncomfortable for me, as they should be. But as someone who was a senior in high school in May of 2014 these characters were believable. The story was believable.

I felt like the pacing was slightly off. We needed the full story, but the first 3/4 of the book set up the last 1/4 and so much was shoved into that last 1/4. There were times in the beginning where I was thinking to myself okay. Trust the process. Everyone raves about this that you know has read the book. And the by the end, I was like how can this be almost over I want more.

If I had not listened to the audio book I probably would have rated this a 4 - 4.5. But that is mostly because this is not my genre. But the audio book pushes it just that much further.

Delightfully creepy. I loved this retelling of Carrie! It was poignant and scary and very relevant to today.
