Despite the ever nightmare-inducing art by Larroca, this was a really good story. I loved seeing the Mon Cala again, even though the king part broke my a heart.
Respect to Trios for being such a sneaky character. Way to go girl. You won’t survive this run, but I appreciate your efforts.

Mutiny at Mon Cala introduces the Mon Calamari homeworld and the politics of signing up Ackbar's people to the rebellion. It reads like a heist movie with the old regulars and a few very interesting new characters joining the mix.

The reused character images from the films are completely distracting. Whenever I see Han, Leia, or Luke in these graphic novels, I immediately think of the line they say at that point in the movie, not about whatever is happening in the graphic novel story. It's a really weird art choice to keep making, book after book.
The story is also bland. It doesn't feel to me like this series is bringing the characters where they need to go between the end of the first film and the beginning of the next. There's little forward movement—just endless little side stories that don't mean much. Luke is particularly useless in this volume. The glimpse of Hera and Zeb only made me think, "I'm sure whatever they're doing right now is more interesting than this story."

There were a few moments of plot turns that had me gasp. The writing from Gillen remains stellar - a fun heist/prison break that ends with a space battle. And the art. Larroca kills on everything but there was a panel that straight up looked exactly like Harrison Ford's Han Solo smirk.

This would be a five star book if it weren't for the art. I understand why CGI would have an appeal to artists, especially those working on a film-based franchise, but it sucks all the life out of the characters.
They hit their stride with the process in the next volume, but at this stage it distracts from the story too much.

Was not looking forward to another Mon Cala arc (after the lacklustre Clone Wars one and fine one from the Soule Darth Vader run), but it was pretty good
